LALAL.AI: #1 AI Vocal Remover App Review

Written by: Cody

Updated: Jul 21, 2023

I’ve talked about LALAL.AI in a previous post before.

They’re an AI-powered song-splitting tool that allows users to extract vocal and instrumental tracks from songs.

As a musician, you can probably see the value in this already. Whether you want to split tracks to cover a song, remix a song, sing karaoke, or just play around and practice – it’s extremely useful.

However, with LALAL.AI you were never able to split tracks on the go – until now.

LALAL.AI recently released its mobile app and today I’m going to go through it and provide a comprehensive review, detailing the features, functionality, and overall user experience.

About LALAL.AI

Before we dive in, let’s chat about the magic behind this service.

LALAL.AI is an AI-powered tool that’s used for splitting songs into separate vocal and instrumental tracks. This is often referred to as “stem extraction” or “source separation” in the music industry.

The technology behind LALAL.AI uses machine learning algorithms to identify and isolate different elements of a song. It can extract the vocal track from a song, leaving the instrumental track behind, and vice versa.

But LALAL.AI doesn’t stop there. You can even separate certain instrumentation. Want to isolate the piano? It can do that. Want to isolate the guitars? It can do that too. You can actually split any track into 10 different stems.

This is particularly useful for musicians, DJs, producers, and others involved in the music industry, as it allows for easy creation of remixes and samples for new music.

Downloading and Installation

Starting off with the basics – the download and installation process.

Like any app, it’s pretty simple. Just head over to the app store and download the app.

Currently, the app is only available for Apple iPhone or iPad users so if you’re an Android user you’ll have to wait a bit longer, but it is being worked on.

User Interface

Jumping into the app, the first thing that hits you is the user interface. Clean, sleek, and as intuitive as it gets.

They’ve designed it to be user-friendly, with clear graphics and self-explanatory icons, meaning even rookies in the world of music technology can navigate it effortlessly.

This app makes it clear that it’s all about getting the job done without unnecessary complications.

Features & Functionality

Now to the meat of it – the features.

The app’s unique proposition is creating “stems” and isolating different parts of a song – and boy, does it deliver! The accuracy is phenomenal, making it a great vocal remover and a breeze to separate a variety of instrumentation including:

  • Vocal and instrumental
  • Voice and noise (clean up background noise)
  • Drums
  • Bass
  • Acoustic guitar
  • Electric guitar
  • Piano
  • Synthesizer
  • Strings
  • Wind

So, here’s what you do:

  1. Start by clicking the “+Split Files” button.
  2. Choose either a file or a piece of media from your photo library (currently LALAL.AI supports the following types of media: MP3, OGG, WAV, FLAC, AVI, MP4, MKV, AIFF, and AAC)
  3. Select the “stem” or what you want to isolate (i.e. vocals, guitars, etc…)
  4. Wait for the stem to process and preview the results
  5. Choose to download the entire song file or restart the process.

That’s it! It’s super intuitive and simple.

If you choose to download the song, it will be deducted from your minutes balance. For example, everyone starts with 10 minutes of trial time. If you download a stem that’s 3 minutes in length, your balance will reduce to 7 minutes.

Performance

So how does the LALAL.AI perform? Well, I’ve got to say it’s pretty damn good.

I was impressed when I first tested out LALAL.AI through their web-based app and their mobile app didn’t disappoint either.

Now, that being said, some songs will just split better than others. Depending on the complexity of the instrumentation, don’t expect to get crystal clear guitar stems or piano stems every time.

If there’s a lot going on in the song, the service can only do so much. However, that should be expected.

What it can do though is provide high-quality vocal and instrumental tracks for a wide variety of songs. Just check out the demo song on their website.

Pricing

Whenever you sign up for LALAL.AI’s service you start with the “Starter” plan which gives you 10 free minutes.

Now, for paid plans, there are 3 pricing options:

  • Lite pack – $15 one-time fee: Provides you with 90 minutes
  • Plus pack – $25 one-time fee: Provides you with 300 minutes
  • Pro pack – $35 one-time fee: Provides you with 500 minutes

Moreover, if you want to use this service more than what the standard plans offer, you can upgrade to their high-volume plans for $100, $200, or $300.

Overall, I love that you aren’t tied into a monthly subscription model that renews every month. You can just use what you need and if you want to purchase more minutes you can at an affordable price.

Knowledgebase / Customer Support

LALAL.AI’s guides and blogs offer a ton of useful information for those just getting started in track separation and the music industry in general.

If you need to contact their customer support you can just send them an email and they’re quick to respond.

Conclusion

To wrap up, I’ve been impressed with LALAL.AI’s service ever since the first time I used it. It’s super cool that it gets better as time goes on through the power of machine learning and AI.

Now that there’s a mobile app musicians can do more of their work on the go.

With so many music apps available, it’s getting continuously easier to make beats, draft up song ideas, or churn out full-fledged tunes in record time. LALAL.AI’s stem-splitting technology is another great one to have in your tool belt.
